March 2014 Message Toolkit

Be_Climate_Ready-Johnson2

This month we urge Marylanders to “Be Climate Ready” and become prepared for the effects of a changing climate, such as extreme rain events and flooding. Two local television meteorologists – and prominent climate change communicators — help us spread the word. These messages tie into national awareness weeks: National Severe Weather Preparedness Week (March 2-8), and Flood Safety Awareness Week (March 17-21). Help Marylanders recognize not only the risks of flooding and extreme events, but that there are things that they can do to address them, such as purchasing flood insurance, and having a family emergency plan and an emergency kit in their car and at home in case a natural disaster strikes.

Download the Guide, as well as other media below, including social media graphics, Facebook and Twitter content, a fact sheet, and posters in size 8.5×11 that you can print yourself, or size 11×17 that can be produced inexpensively by any copy or print facility.

Key Messages

  • Be Climate Ready!
  • Have an emergency plan and kit for when extreme events hit.
  • Know your flood risk and whether your insurance covers it.
